Abstract: Purpose. On the basis of theoretical and experimental studies suggest a method that will determine the relationship between the area of the fire and the amount of toxic combustion products during their appearance at the sites of storage of petroleum and petroleum products. Reduce emissions by implementing highly effective engineering fire protection. Methods. The method of calculation capabilities for fighting fires in tanks has been adopted to solve this problem. The subject of research is the area of the fire in the vertical steel tanks PBC -5000 and the amount of toxic combustion products released in the convective flow due a possible fire. Definition of pollution combustion products environmental performed to use dependencies that include specific values of possible emission of toxic products (stoichiometric coefficients). The effect on the value of each parameter towards its reduction achieved through implementation highly effective engineering of fire prevention. The results obtained in the paper allow to monitor the sites of storage of petroleum and petroleum products from the environmental point of view ecological safety and to manage it. In addition, using the proposed dependency may determine the quantitative composition of toxic combustion products that releasing during the combustion process in the environment at the sites of storage of petroleum and petroleum products. Scientific novelty. A methodology of numerical indicator of ecological pollution of the environment from fires at the sites of storage of petroleum and petroleum products based on weather conditions and its spatial distribution for the distribution of toxic products of combustion. Practical implications. The results are recommended for implementation in practice operation of storage of petroleum and petroleum products, the practice of administrative management of these facilities to provide fire and environmental safety, as well as the practice of research and design institutions in the projecting of objects of storage of petroleum and petroleum products and the educational process of higher technical schools in the study courses of fire and ecological direction.
