Abstract: The activity of a psychologist is now determined by the focus on the optimal realization of a person’s potential in the eld of his/her professional activities, personal life, interpersonal interactions, and personal perception. However, not all psychologists are able to implement their functions properly, which is re ected in the spiritual condition and economic development of the society. In this regard, the urgent task of higher education is to optimize and modernize the training of quali ed psychologists. e article highlights the identi ed di culties and reveals the leading aspects of the problem of future psychologists’ training at domestic higher schools, as well as analyzes the views of various scholars on how to solve it. e main di culties of future psychologists’ professional training at domestic higher schools include: the lack of initial psychological preparation among applicants and the mismatch of students’ ideas about the content of psychological science and functional responsibilities of a psychologist at the initial stages of training, inconsistency of life and scienti c psychological knowledge, little expressed practical signi cance in academic psychology, lack of practice-oriented training, etc. Improving the professional training of psychologists at higher schools in accordance with the requirements of society should provide a reasonable combination of academic psychology and psychological practice, focus on ethical issues and priorities of personal growth of future professionals, the formation of their analytical thinking, empathy and re ection, as well as e ective methods of professional activity, increasing attention to students’ trainings and the development of their communicative competence, education of the desire for continuous self-development and self-improvement in the chosen direction of specialization. It is also important to provide educational and methodological support for the teaching and learning process and further professional activities of psychologists.
