This has brought to life experimental (postmodernist) writing the key principles of intertextuality, fragmentation, destruction, play. Postmodernist aesthetics caused a blurring of traditional genre canons that led to contamination of syncretic genre compounds through a grotesque transformation of traditional genre models and created an „estrangement? effect. The phenomenon of ludic absurd is viewed in three as- pects: 1) linguo-philosophical; 2) cognitive; 3) poetic. The present study focuses on the analysis of ludic absurd; the role of graphic, phonetic, morphemic, word-forming, syntactical, semantic mechanisms, based on the intentional deviation of language norm, play on words; cognitive mechanisms, generated by ad-hoc way of thinking. The conducted linguopoetic analysis of American postmodern short stories suggests that ludic absurd as a stylistic device of postmodern poetics manifests itself at all language levels (lexical, syn- tactic, semasiological, and textual) and is realized via the semantic asymmetry of lexical units, using illog- ical, but grammatically correct syntactic constructions, syntactic mismatch of sentences and whole text fragments. Франка. Квантита- тивне співвідношення морфологічних категорій у тексті – важлива характеристика як функційних стилів, так й ідіолектів окремих письменників. Морфологічне маркування електронного корпусу текстів великої прози І. Франка, який містить понад 500 000 слововживань, уможливило детальний кількісний аналіз частин мови у двох площинах: у словнику (реєстрі) і тексті автора. Основою корпусу стали усі українськомовні тексти великої прози І. Франка: «Борислав сміється» (1880–1881), «Захар Беркут» (1883), «Не спитавши броду» (1885–1886), «Для домашнього огнища» (1892), «Основи суспільності» (1894–1895), «Перехресні стежки» (1900), «Boa constrictor» (1905–1907), «Великий шум» (1907), «Петрії й Довбущуки» (1909–1912). Кожній частині мови (іменнику, прикметнику, займеннику, числівнику, дієслову, прислівнику і службовим) присвячено окрему діаграму, що показує її кількісне співвідношення у кожному із зазначених творів. Графічне зображення особливостей поведінки цих класів слів унаочнило, що найбільшу різноманітність у реєстрі показують іменники, прикметники та дієслова. У тексті ж іменники демонструють поведінку, протилежну до дієслів, прикметників і прислівників – хронологічно їх кількість зростає: чим пізніший твір, тим більше у ньому іменників. Ані у реєстрі, ані у тексті не простежено кореляції між обсягом твору та особливістю функціонування тієї чи іншої частини мови. Результати, зокрема графічні, проливають нове світло на особливості ідіолекту І. Франка, його творчої манери письма, добору морфологічних категорій для якнайточнішого висловлення думки. Вони мають потенціал використання франкознавстві (нпр., Енциклопедія І. This study is focused on the research of semantic mechanisms of unusually combined lexemes and unexpected collocations in English postmodern short-short stories. Reconsideration of the literary past and ironic view on traditional poetic canons are reflected in postmodern literary texts due to the principles of postmodern poetics. Being distinctive feature of postmodern literature in general, uncertainty creates multiplicity of meanings of entire literary text, as well as separate unexpected collocations, by means of unusually combined lexemes. The aim of the study is to elaborate the phenomenon of valence violation, created by unusually combined lexemes and unexpected collocations in English postmodern short-short stories. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to define the notion of valence and lexeme compatibility, to identify types of valence violation in lexemes combinations, and to provide their possible interpretation. Functioning in English postmodern shortshort stories such language units widen boundaries of their usage and their combinatorial profile. Unusually combined lexemes focus the reader‘s attention and provoke a cognitive mechanism of continuous searching for a hidden meaning of unexpected collocations and the general message of a literary text. In this research unusually combined lexemes are regarded as special markers of postmodern short-short story genre for which violation of text structure, violation of usual relations between lexemes in logic, semantic and syntactic aspects are quite common. 2022-01-01T00:00:00Z
