Назви хвороб в українських перекладах Біблії ХIХ–ХХ століть: лінгвокультурологічний аспект

Abstract

The article deals with the research of the thematic group “names of diseases” in the Ukrainian translations of the Bible of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (by P. Morachevskyi, P. Kulish–I. Puliuy–I. Nechuy–Levytskyi, I. Ohiyenko, I. Khomenko, R. Turkoniak). The author has studied in a comparative aspect semantic, stylistic and cultural peculiarities of these names, which show their unsteadiness in the Ukrainian language of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; and the synonymic (quasi-synonymic) rows and their not always accurate reproduction in biblical texts confirm this. The following names of diseases have been analysed: tuberculosis, dropsy, fever, inflammation, frenzy, relaxation, madness, sleepwalking, bleeding, epidemic diseases, lichen, leprosy, pestilence, plague, scabies, paralysis, gangrene
